MARCH MEETING We were very lucky to have a great talk about Colours & Varieties from our guest speaker Mr Jeff Attwood. The talk was both informative and entertaining whilst putting the subject into simple terms which was much appreciated by beginners and champions alike. It covered pretty much everything from the dominant varieties, sex linked varieties and explained a lot about recessive varieties including which recessive varieties dominate the others. Jeff was more than happy to encourage our questions and did a great job answering them all. 24 members attended and the overall response was excellent with everybody I have spoken to saying they learnt something relevant to they’re chosen variety, the meeting and its contents are still being discussed at the time of writing this..Well done Jeff ! And many thanks from all of us at Truro B&FBS

MAY MEETING Unfortunately due to Rick Watts being ill he could not attend as planned ,but we were lucky enough to get a replacement speaker at short notice for which we were all very grateful. Mike Hearn of the champion partnership Hearn & Whaley from Plymouth in Devon. Mike gave us a very interesting talk on line breeding and in breeding ,the benefits and the pit falls. We had many interesting and differing opinions on the subject which made for some interesting debates ,but I think something was learned by all. We also covered a few other subjects and had a few of mikes jokes which thankfully I cant remember ( sorry mike ) once again thanks mike for jumping into the breach. I think you should come to all the monthly meetings just so we have you on hand !!!! Other items discussed at the meeting mainly concerned our forthcoming specialist and rare variety show that is being held on June 22nd 2008 at Camborne St Johns ambulance hall ,South Terrace , Camborne , Cornwall TR148SU. Schedules entry forms etc available from Brian Reese 01736754136 or from myself via email Mark@budgerigars-southwest.co.uk We would welcome your support and entries for this and hope we can turn it into a regular yearly event and make it rank as one of the premier shows in the south west

JUNE MEETING This evening we were lucky to ensnare Exhibition Budgerigar Breeder and BS Judge Mr Geoff Tuplin who is in the county on holiday and kindly agreed to give us an off the cuff questions and answers session Geoff started by telling us how he came into the hobby after keeping racing pigeons and finches . He then went on to tell us about the way he keeps feeds and treats his birds and some of the things he probably does differently to most fanciers using his knowledge based on the pigeons and I for one thought them to be very interesting especially his “resting period” for the birds . Geoff went on to tell us about the problems he had with the birds in previous years and went into great detail on the subject along with this was his method of culling the birds which now leaves him with no birds with feather problems, how many of us would get rid of everything with a feather problem ? They’re usually amongst the best in the shed !!! We also had an in depth chat about Jo Mannes and Geoffs admiration for him the quality in depth of Jo’s birds his feeding and cleaning etc for those of us that have never been over it was very interesting. I hope to think Geoff had an interesting and fun evening with us as I know the members present enjoyed meeting and listening to him (well done Rodney for talking Geoff into it !!!) Other items discussed in general were about the adverts and sponsorship for our up coming gold patronage show and the new staging required for it |
